JD Advising’s Scholars Program

We want to help promote diversity in law school and get students off on the right foot! Our Scholars Program is here to help!

Scholars receive the following benefits:

  • Academic webinars: two live webinars covering key law school success topics, including how to succeed during your 1L year and how to avoid common mistakes during finals.
  • Tutoring: five one-on-one tutoring sessions scheduled throughout the fall semester (August–November) to help you stay on track and build strong study habits.
  • Law firm mentorship: each scholar is paired with a mentor from a top law firm for guidance and insight into the legal profession.
  • Professional exposure: your resume will be shared with participating law firms for potential networking and recruiting opportunities.

To apply to the JD Advising Scholars Program, you must submit:

  • Completed Application Form
  • Resume
  • Undergraduate and graduate transcripts (official or unofficial)
  • Proof of Law School Acceptance
  • Personal Introduction: Submit a 2-minute video or short essay describing your experiences, perspective, or goals—including any obstacles you’ve overcome or your commitment to expanding access to opportunity in the legal field.

The priority deadline for the program is June 30, 2026. The final deadline for the program is July 25, 2026.

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be an incoming first-year student enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school’s J.D. program for Fall 2026 (graduating in May 2029)
  • Have a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA or a 160 LSAT score

This free program is open to all students and welcomes applicants with a wide range of experiences and perspectives. We especially encourage those who have overcome significant personal, academic, or financial obstacles, are first-generation college or law students, or who have shown a strong commitment to expanding access to education and opportunity in the legal profession.

“JD Advising was a fantastic resource for both my academic and professional development during my 1L year. I was paired with a tutor who was a great resource during the first few months of my fall semester. As a first-generation student, one-on-one tutoring not only served to break down complex legal concepts but also afforded me the opportunity to learn from a tutor who had excelled during law school. Furthermore, JD Advising provided me with substantial resources during the 1L summer application process and helped me navigate the uncertainty of the first-year job placement.”
